Have you ever read a Bible story and thought, That character feels just like me? I recently had that experience, and it was both comforting and eye-opening.

One of my favorite stories is the account of Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33). At first glance, it’s a miracle—Jesus invites Peter to step out of the boat and walk toward Him on the stormy sea. And Peter does! But then, he notices the wind and waves, fear takes over, and he begins to sink.

totally relate to Peter. One moment, I’m full of faith, stepping boldly into what God has called me to do. The next, I’m overwhelmed by doubt, distracted by the “waves” of life—worries, failures, or uncertainty. Like Peter, I sometimes take my eyes off Jesus and start sinking into fear.

But here’s the beautiful part: Jesus doesn’t let Peter drown. He immediately reaches out, catches him, and gently says, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

That’s the grace I cling to. Even when my faith wavers, Jesus is there, steady and strong, lifting me back up. He doesn’t scold Peter for trying; He simply reminds him where his focus should be.

This story reassures me that God doesn’t expect perfection—just a heart willing to step out, even if I stumble along the way. And when I do stumble, His hand is always outstretched.

Maybe you see yourself in a different Bible story—a doubting Thomas, a persistent widow, or a hesitant Moses. The beauty of Scripture is that it meets us right where we are, reminding us we’re not alone in our struggles.

So, if you’ve ever felt like a “sinking Peter,” take heart. You’re in good company, and grace is always within reach.

Question for you: Which Bible character do you relate to the most? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  1. Hey Tim,

Loved this revelation. The character that I relate to the most from the Bible is David

David has been through a lot in his life. Promised to be a king but running away from Saul to keep himself alive, and the remaining life he lived he committed a lot of mistakes but he never turned away from God, whenever he committed any sin he would go to the presence of God and ask for forgiveness.
