to make myself a yoke out of leather straps and wooden crossbars and to put it on my neck.
– Jeremiah 27:2
I have always googled and seen how does this yoke look? Because I try to understand what exactly *Lord God -(In Old Testament it is God who did the talking, here it is to prophets Jeremiah about the yoke of suffering or punishment, yoke always represents a burden, curse, punishment)* trying to say about it.
Let’s rewind a bit to tell you all how did I arrive down at this verse. During my morning walks, a mom, daughter and her dad passed by me. Out of the conversation they were having I could overhear the mother telling her daughter, ‘Jesus fasted for 40 days.
When I reached home I told my daughter about this, my 9-year-old was surprised. She told to get the Bible lets to see what God leads us to. As we opened it was a book of Jeremiah and she was clueless, nothing was highlighted and marked though. I glanced through and my attention was on the verse Jeremiah 27:2.
This reminded me, “Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.” Matthew 11: 28-30
She repeatedly read it and we had a brainstorm quick snap on it. I left her for a while and entered in again and asked,
Jesus fasted for 40 days, can we?
Jesus carried the cross, can we?
Both had a common answer ‘No’
That was like a heavy yoke isn’t it. What kind of yoke will Jesus give us heavy or light?
She said and concluded, ‘Jesus will never give us heavy yoke he will give us light yoke’
What’s exactly is this heavy and light yoke?
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires. The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives.
Galatians 5:24-25
The light yoke, is the character of Lord Jesus, which means we need to bear the fruits of spirit ; Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self Control (Gal 5 ; 22-23)
We must not be proud or irritate one another or be jealous of one another. ~ Galatians 5:26
