We think that we have all the time in the world, living life not thinking that any day, could be our last day.

Today Brett and I, along with family and friends, said our final good byes to a dear and wonderful friend, who passed away a week or so ago. His wife had passed away last January and I believe they had been together for about forty years. Rather than disclosing his real name, I for privacy reasons, will just refer to him as John.

After we attended the memorial for his wife, we’ll call her Jenny, passed away at the beginning of the year, Brett felt that even though we didn’t really know John, that we should go and start visiting him in a nursing home that he had been placed in.

As soon as I found out that John had passed away, I felt overcome with sorrow and it felt quite shocking. Then I had these thoughts though, that he would be so happy celebrating his new eternal life in heaven, with his wife Jenny and The Lord.

That’s the thing that we us believers get to look forward to, that we are not here permanently here on this earth where everything is decaying and dying. We get to spend eternity with other believers and The Lord Jesus, after this life.

Those who have passed, I’m sure they wouldn’t want their friends and family to mourn after them, but I guess its human nature, to feel at a real loss, when we lose someone that we have loved so dearly.

I realise that I wasn’t as close to John, as his immediate family, but I couldn’t help but shed a few tears at the memorial, because there were parts, listening to reflections about John and watching people cry over John; it just felt so sad. It was a bit overwhelming. I guess this is just the order of nature, until we pass from this life into our heavenly eternity.

Revelation 21:4

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, no sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

The ultimate best gift that Jesus could give those, who have surrendered their lives to Him, is salvation; eternity in heaven with Him.

This earthly life, is full of ups and downs; there are circumstances that bring us to our knees begging God for mercy. How wonderful is it, that Jesus died on the cross for all of humanity’s sin forever?

If you haven’t given your life to Jesus, just yet. Don’t delay and let time escape you, make the decision today to come to Him, He will help you through everything in this life, with his love, peace, joy, strength and ultimately salvation when it all draws to an end on this earth.

We love Jesus, because He first loved us; just look at what He did on the cross for you, so that you wouldn’t have to go through that. There is no other better love than the love of Jesus Christ. John and his wife, were dedicated followers of Jesus and they are now receiving their reward of heaven right now together. May the end of your life here, be the beginning of your new one in heaven.

Blessings
