The Biblical definition of love is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
The highest form of love is Agape — sacrificial love.
If you read the Gospels, you will see that Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, demonstrated this perfectly. God gave His Son to die for our sins. As a father myself, I cannot even begin to imagine allowing anyone to hurt — let alone kill — my son. Yet God did this for us.
As a young Christian, I see two common struggles among believers:
-
Those who feel so ashamed of their sins that they cannot forgive themselves. They ask, “How can God forgive me? I am unworthy.”
-
Those who believe their sin is too great to be forgiven.
But God says in His Word, in Psalm 103:12, that when we repent, He removes our sins as far as the east is from the west.
Think of the man crucified alongside Jesus. He lived a life of sin, and with his dying breath, he asked for forgiveness. Jesus told him that that very day he would be with Him in paradise. God looks at the heart. If that man had merely spoken empty words, he would not have been saved — but he truly repented.
God’s love is revealed through grace and mercy. The depth of His love, forgiveness, goodness, and glory is beyond human understanding. Yet when you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins, you begin to experience that love and forgiveness personally.
Today, many people want things to happen quickly and according to their own will. When plans fail, they are quick to blame God and drift away from Him. But love is patient — and patience is a virtue many of us lack.
Read Jeremiah 29. The Lord has plans to prosper you, but according to His will and His timing. All He asks in return is faith and trust.
In Matthew 6:26, Jesus reminds us that if God takes care of the birds of the air, how much more will He take care of you?
Knowing these truths is different from believing them. To truly experience God’s love and forgiveness, you must trust His Word and be patient as it unfolds in your life.
Someone once asked me, “If God truly loves me, why does He allow bad things to happen?”
My answer was simple: bad people do bad things to good people — that is part of life in a fallen world.
Then I asked about perspective. Perspective matters. Is the glass half full or half empty? You can blame God for everything that goes wrong, or you can ask Him to protect you, guide you, and cover you with His mercy and grace.
Yes, the state of the world feels uncertain and troubling. Anxiety is real. But turn your eyes to Him. Put your faith in Him. Change your perspective.
Love is patient. Trust His timing.
