Behold Jesus — and Receive His Light
Today, during prayer, I felt the Lord putting one word strongly on my heart: “Behold Jesus.”
And I felt that beholding Jesus is not just something we do with our eyes or even with our thoughts. We are called to behold Him with our heart, our soul, and our mind.
Jesus says in Matthew 22:37, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”
And I began thinking about a plant.
A plant is completely dependent on the sun. It doesn’t create its own light. It simply stays rooted and continually receives from the sunlight.
And I thought—that is such a picture of our relationship with Jesus.
We don’t have to manufacture the light. Jesus is the Light.
Our part is to remain rooted and continually turn toward Him.
When my heart is turned toward Jesus, I am saying, “Jesus, You are whom I love.”
When my soul is turned toward Jesus, I am saying, “Jesus, I trust You.”
And when my mind is turned toward Jesus, I am saying, “Jesus, I choose to focus on You and believe Your truth.”
When all three are turned toward Him, something begins to happen.
2 Corinthians 3:18 says that as we behold the glory of the Lord, we are being transformed into His image.
That means transformation doesn’t always begin with trying harder.
Sometimes it begins simply with looking at Jesus again.
When I am anxious, I behold Jesus.
When I am confused, I behold Jesus.
When I am hurting, I behold Jesus.
When I don’t understand what God is doing, I behold Jesus.
Because what we continually look at begins to shape us.
And I love Psalm 34:5, which says:
“Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy.”
It doesn’t say those who look at themselves will become radiant.
It says those who look to Him.
So perhaps today the invitation is simply this:
Turn your heart toward Jesus.
Turn your soul toward Jesus.
Turn your mind toward Jesus.
And keep beholding Him.
Like a plant continually receiving sunlight, let’s remain rooted in Christ and dependent on Him.
We don’t have to produce the light.
We simply need to stay turned toward the Light.
And as we behold Jesus, His light begins to bring healing, nourishment, truth, strength—and transformation into our lives.
Behold Jesus. Receive His light. And let His light transform you.
