[Verse 1]
To the river I am going
Bringing sins I cannot bear
Come and cleanse me
Come forgive me
Lord, I need to meet You there
To the river I am going
Bringing sins I cannot bear
Come and cleanse me
Come forgive me
Lord, I need to meet You there
[Chorus]
Precious Jesus, I am ready
To surrender every care
Take my hand now
Lead me closer
Lord, I need to meet You there
[Verse 2]
In these waters, healing mercy
Flows with freedom from despair
And I am going to that river
Lord, I need to meet You there
[Chorus]
Precious Jesus, I am ready
To surrender every care
Take my hand now
Lead me closer
Lord, I need to meet You there
This song was introduced to me at my cousins place while visiting from another province in 2012. Family members gathered around to sing this song before leaving for home. Instrument used was a Q-Chord. We sang in four part harmony along with the pianist. So touching then as now.  Â
The information gathered and paraphrased was taken from the site,” TwoCities.com)
What does the ‘river’ represent in the spiritual sense?  My family used to live near a river in the small community where I spent my childhood years. Always flowing, sometimes overflowing. So with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit moves in such a way that hearts are touched. God’s presence is felt.   People start praising and worshiping. This is the flow of the Holy Spirit. In His presence we can come and experience a renewal to our souls.
Water washes dirt from our bodies. Spiritually stepping into the ‘water’ of God’s love, mercy and grace cleanses us. Remember Naaman who after a stubborn streak, went and washed in the river seven times as ordered by God’s  prophet, Elisha(2Kings 5.). He came out cleansed and recognized the work of God the Israelites served. The water symbolizes repentance and renewal. Same when one is baptized declaring the work of salvation and walking in step with the Holy Spirit.  Also here we can lay down our heavy burdens and struggles and leave them with the Lord. Jesus said, ‘Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest.” He carries our burdens. I had a heavy burden I was carrying. Finally I found it too heavy, and cried out to God. Right there and then I felt that ‘burden leave’ and felt lighter afterwards. The Holy Spirit yanked that off of me and I saw a dark presence leave. Â
Jesus will meet us at any point when surrender is involved. Joy and freedom follows.
May we meet Jesus, our Lord and Savior where we are at. He is always calling for us to come to Him no matter the situation. Yes, some are hard,(I’ve been there) yet in all our faith journeys we can come to the river and find cleansing.
May we meet Jesus…through devotional times, staying in the WORD and not the WORLD. Notice, you take one letter out to get WORD. With church family friends. My group meets each Friday over tea/ coffee/ or just water to catch up on issues, encourage one another and to pray.
May the Lord bless and keep you and may His face shine upon you this coming week.
